The 26th Annual FAW Awards, sponsored by Vauxhall, took place at the Vale Resort on Tuesday (8 November) where a fantastic year in Welsh football was celebrated with Gareth Bale and Natasha Harding taking the top honours as respective FAW Player of the Year for the Men’s and Women’s teams.
It has been an incredible year for Welsh football that saw Wales reach the Semi-Finals of EURO 2016, having qualified for a major tournament for the first time in 58 years.
However, the event also paid tribute to the outstanding performances from the Development Squads, to the strengthening of the Women’s game and the ongoing preparations for next year’s UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff.
The event featured a specific EURO 2016 Awards section with Hal Robson-Kanu, Ben Davies and Aaron Ramsey all picking up accolades.
From the domestic game, clubs who had won their respective league’s FAW Fair Play Awards were also recognised and The New Saints stalwart Phil Baker, was rewarded with the Dafabet Welsh Premier League Clubman of the Year Award.
Chris Coleman received the FAW Special Award in recognition of achieving what no Wales manager had done before, after guiding the country to the Semi-Finals of EURO 2016.
Meanwhile, the entertainment was provided by Cerys Matthews, who recited a wonderful poem about the Wales National Team along with performing a medley of her songs, and a powerful performance from Kathrine Jenkins.
The Barry Horns were also present as the house band providing walk-on music for the award winners.
