Wales were full of confidence for their visit to Portugal in qualifying Group 8 of the UEFA Under 21 Championship following the 3-0 win over Switzerland in their opening match.

This was Portugal’s opening qualification match and they picked up all three points after scoring two goals before half-time.
Portugal were the more creative team in attack as they registered several attempts both on and off target with Renato Sanches, Concalo Guedes and Gil Dias creating opportunities, whilst David Brooks went close for Wales.
Portugal took the lead from the penalty spot in the after Joseph Rodon was judged to have fouled Guedes in the box. Ruben Neves stepped up for the home team to score from the penalty spot.
Moments after Sanches missed an opportunity to increase Portugal’s lead, Dias set-up Guedes to male it 2-0 before the first half was completed.
Wales were chasing the game in the second half but were dealt a blow when they were reduced to 10-men after Christopher Mepham picked up two yellow cards in the space of three minutes.
The next match for Wales is on 10 November against Bosnia and Herzegovina at a home venue that is yet to be confirmed.
