The Football Association of Wales is saddened to learn that former Welsh international, Colin Baker passed away peacefully on Sunday, 11 April.
Baker was a member of the 1958 World Cup squad that famously reached the Quarter-Finals in Sweden, making his Cymru debut during the tournament in the 1-1 draw against Mexico. He came close to scoring in the match but saw his shot strike the crossbar.
Baker played seven times for Cymru with his final appearance coming against Scotland in November 1961.
Born in Tremorfa, Cardiff in 1934, his entire professional football career would be spent with his hometown club.
He made 268 appearances for Cardiff City and scored 18 goals, making himself a much loved player with the Bluebirds.
Baker’s club honours included four Welsh Cup winners medals over the course of his decade or so with Cardiff City.
The thoughts of everyone at the FAW are with Colin’s family and friends during this difficult time.
