Top seeds Belgium, ranked number one in the world, will be familiar opponents for Cymru, after facing them in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying round and the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying round. However, the Red Wall will mostly remember the famous night in Lille when Cymru beat the Red Devils 3-1 in the UEFA EURO 2016 quarter finals.

The Czech Republic will also be challenging opponents after matching Cymru in winning their UEFA Nations League League B group last month. Third seeds Belarus face Cymru at the Cardiff City Stadium in September 2019, where a Dan James goal gave the home side a 1-0 win. Meanwhile, Cymru have faced the group’s bottom seeds Estonia twice, winning on both occasions in 1994 and 2009.

The fixture schedule for the qualifying round will be announced on Tuesday 8 December.

The 10 group runners-up will go through to the play-offs, along with the two best Nations League group winners who do not finish in the top two of their World Cup qualifying group.

The 12 play-off teams will be drawn into three separate play-off paths, each of which will comprise semi-finals and final, with the three winners heading to Qatar.
