The year ahead | Cymru MU17 & MU19

Cymru's intermediate teams are getting set for their opening fixtures of the new year as preparations begin for the upcoming qualifying campaigns.

Here's what to look forward to in 2023...

CYMRU MU17

Cymru MU17 are preparing to build on their unbeaten end to 2022 after a win over Croatia and two draws against Sweden and Albania in their UEFA Euro Under-17 Championship qualifying round campaign.

The results saw Cymru earn a place in the elite round alongside 29 other teams, plus top seeds the Netherlands and Spain, who enter at this stage of the competition.

They were placed in Group 2 and will face Montenegro, Scotland and Iceland, with Cymru hosting the mini-tournament during the March international window. A friendly double-header against Israel in Shefayim in February will aid preparations for the elite round.

December also saw Cymru learn their opponents for the 2023/23 UEFA Euro Under-17 qualifying campaign. Craig Knight's side were drawn in Group 12 and will face Belgium, Gibraltar and Israel, who will host the mini tournament later this year.

CYMRU MU19

Cymru MU19 missed out on a place in the UEFA 2023 European Under-19 Championship Elite Round by the narrowest of margins last year, with two goals seeing them fall just short of second place on goal difference.

Rob Edwards' side scored an emphatic nine goals in their final qualifier against Gibraltar at the Racecourse but were still unable to make it through to the elite round.

They have since discovered their fate for the 2023/24 UEFA Euro Under-19 qualifying campaign, with Cymru taking on England, Austria and Montenegro.

The latter will host the mini-tournament and Cymru’s fixtures will take place in October later this year.
