How was FC Cymru filmed whilst social distancing?

The latest episode of FC Cymru is now available to stream on demand and you will find it to watch below.

During these difficult times in the COVID-19 pandemic, when social distancing is of paramount importance to tackle the virus, it leads to many challenges as to how we would normally go about doing things.

Therefore, FAW.Cymru asked Laurence Mora from the FC Cymru team to let us know how they got around this challenge:

"So, how do you put together a Welsh football show when there’s no football, you’re in lockdown and social distancing is absolutely vital to flatten the Covid-19 curve.

"Well, first of all you put the kettle, this is absolutely vital to any FC Cymru meeting. Then we invested in a Zoom account and got the gang together for a brainstorming session.

"The great thing for us at FC Cymru is that the Welsh football family has gone into overdrive to help each other and be active in their community. Once we started looking for great stories it was actually cutting down the number in order to make the show.

"From Turf Creative in Bridgend, who have been helping bring childrens kit designs to life, to Cwmamman United, who have helped save their local foodbank and engaged their youth teams with some home challenges. We also felt a conversation about mental health would be really beneficial as it’s so important to look after your mind as well as your body during these times.

"We tried to make each element of the show look different, so while Dan led the chat with Rhyd from Turf Creative in a more traditional FC Cymru pkg, which included interviews with some young wales fans and their dads. We allowed Abi to hold a Zoom conference call with our guests for the mental health chat, which included Kane from Hafal.

"For my part of the show we decided that we’d let Lance from Cwmamman, Marc from Aberystwyth Town, and Rhys from Rhayader Town tell their own stories. So, I conducted all the interviews via Zoom but then our videographer Richard brought it to life brilliantly using social media, home videos and graphics.

"Finally, as I mentioned, there are so many great stories of folk pulling together right now that it was hard to leave some out. With this in mind we decided to take a whizz through social media to highlight a few in a TV Burp style, although I can assure you that no one, absolutely no one, at FC Cymru made Alex wear his home-made Harry Hill outfit!

"Oh and the introduction, well that was inspired by a certain club’s signing reveal. Can you guess which one? Put your answers on our Facebook group - FC Cymru - Welsh Football Community.

"Stay safe everyone and see you soon."
