Exciting day in store at Celtic Park

17 August 20191:55pm

Cwmbran Celtic host Tier 2 new boys Swansea University at Celtic Park this afternoon.

Ahead of the clash, Celtic boss Nick Morgan had this to say.

“As an individual, it’s something I’ve been looking forward to since I took over the role in May. As a club, they’ve been preparing for this for a long time. It’s something they’ve had in the back of their heads, getting the Tier 2 licence up to date and I know the club for the last couple of years have been really excited for this moment. Tomorrow can’t come quick enough for them.”

“You can see the difference straight away from Tier 3. The standard of everything that goes on behind the scenes, the expectations, the level of commitment is massive in comparison to where I came from with Monmouth."

His opposite number Dafydd Evans, meanwhile knows it's a massive occasion for the club:

"It's an exciting day for the club and past and present players who got us to this level. Early season is difficult for us but we look forward to getting started at Cwmbran and seeing where the season takes us.

"There are many big challenges this season at a higher level on and off the field but we will grow into the environment."

It’s the most competitive I’ve known it.

17 August 201912:58pm

The JD Cymru North could well be the hardest to call of all the three divisions in the league.

Rhyl boss Eddie Maurice Jones knows his side will have to be at their very best to challenge for the title.

“There’s challenges all over, you can see five or six teams really going for it this season, this league’s always getting tougher and it’s good. It’s the most competitive I’ve known it.

"[Last season] we went into too many games knowing we had the quality on paper, but we didn’t really put the effort in. I felt sometimes we thought the job was already done, well that’s not the case in this league.

"[the players] all want this this season, and that has made the group tighter."

It's a bit of history

17 August 201912:18pm

JD Cymru South side Cwmamman United finished sixth in the table last season, and as they prepare to get their third season in the second tier underway, manager Ryan Stephens is looking to build on their progress.

“It’s always exciting to get football back generally, but with the new brand it does add that extra edge. It’s taken everything up a level a bit now, off the field, on the field. I know a lot of people in all the clubs have worked very hard to get their status, so it’s something to be proud of. It’s a bit of history.

“The idea is to be as established as possible. There’s a lot of good teams. There’s not much between any of the teams in this league on their day. The main thing is to keep the values that we had, keep the things that we did good in last year, but build on it in other areas."

It doesn't get much tougher than Cardiff Met on the opening day

17 August 201911:52am

Connah's Quay Nomads host the only game today in the JD Cymru Premier. They play Cardiff Met, and boss Andy Morrison has been giving his thoughts to the Nomads' website ahead of the game.

Everyone connected with the club can't wait for the start of the league programme. Pre-season has been a long and again great journey for Connah's Quay Nomads. The reason it's long is the reward for the success of the previous season.

We go again against Cardiff Met on the opening day with a clear vision of having the challenge of European football and a two week break as our reward at the end of the 2019/20 season.

It doesn't get much tougher than Cardiff Met on the opening day - for me, any team that finish above Cardiff Met this season will be in Europe come next summer."

He was Bound to score

17 August 201911:27am

Luke Boundford marked his debut for Aberystwyth Town last night by hitting this cracker in their 3-2 win over Carmarthen.

It's a kind of magic

17 August 201910:34am

Go on, admit it, you've been trying to replicate Jonathan Hood's volley this morning.

No? Just us then.

Well you've definitely been replaying the video over and over again, and we think the Linnets fans won't forget that one in a hurry.

Meanwhile there are debuts at Tier 2 for STM Sports and Swansea Uni in the south, whilst in the north newly-promoted Corwen, Llanfair United and Llangefni Town also get their campaigns underway.

Goytre aiming for top four - Lee John

16 August 20197:15pm

Goytre United boss Lee John has been speaking ahead of his side's match tonight, and says his side are aiming to go one better than last year:

“We just want to improve. We finished fifth last year, we would like to break into that top four now. We’ve lost some big players over the summer. We’ve lost our goalkeeper, our captain Dale Griffiths, we’ve lost Warren Jones, Sam Johnson and Cortez Belle. We’ve lost the spine of our time.

If we can emulate what we did last season, I’m going to be happy. What we have done is signed some good young players in Keane Watts, Adam Robins and Josh Jones.”
