An open letter from Gemma Grainger

On Friday night, we begin our qualification campaign for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where we hope to make history and reach our first major finals.

2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

Cymru v Kazakhstan

  • 19:15 Friday 17 September
  • Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli
  • Tickets available here

Since I started my role as Cymru manager back in March, it has been a privilege to get to know the group of players, staff and the nation that I will be representing for the next four years. Over the last six months I have visited Cardiff, Llanelli, Llangrannog and Wrexham, and I have truly realized the pride and passion the people of Wales have for their country. I heard 21,000 Cymru fans sing the anthem last week at the Cardiff City Stadium and it gave me goosebumps. I can’t wait to hear and sing it again when we start our campaign against Kazakhstan this Friday.

The group of players that represent Cymru truly are a special group of individuals. The passion and pride they have for their country is unmatched and they live to the standards that are required to represent Cymru.

The foundations for the team have been set over the recent years for the team to reach a major tournament for the first time and our hope is to build on those foundations over the coming months to reach that goal. However, we need your support to reach that summit.

The Red Wall will be key to our success. The confidence that grows with the squad from your support can truly help us when we need it the most, and we want you to be on this journey with us throughout the qualifying campaign. We can’t wait to see you at our match against Kazakhstan at Parc y Scarlets on Friday where we welcome fans back for the first time since March 2020 and we promise that we will give a performance that you will be proud of.

Together, let’s make history.
