The Cymru age groups will have a busy start to the 2021/22 season, with camps taking place for every squad during the September international window.
Following 18 months of UEFA tournament cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rob Edwards’ Cymru U19s will take part in a friendly tournament in Croatia in September, ahead of their UEFA U19 EURO campaign starting later this year. For the friendly tournament, Cymru will face hosts Croatia (1 September), Austria (4 September) and Turkey (7 September). Several players that were involved in the U18s’ 2-0 defeat to England back in March are expected to make the step up to the squad and continue the success of a U19 side which has reached the Elite Round of the last two UEFA U19 Championships.
Cymru U18s will welcome old foe England to Spytty Park, Newport on Friday 3 September (13:00). The match will be the U18s’ second match since the side was reformed last season, when they played the same opponent at the Leckwith Stadium in March. Despite the postponement of UEFA’s U18 tournament until the 2022/23 season, manager Matty Jones will hope to continue the development of the players as they look to progress through the Cymru ranks.
The match at Spytty Park will be played behind closed doors.
Richard Williams’ Cymru U17s reached the UEFA U17 EURO Elite Round in the 2019/2020 season, in what was the side’s last competitive fixtures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Williams’ side will face Scotland in two friendly matches in Stirling on Thursday 2 and Sunday 5 September. The matches will begin Cymru’s preparations for the 2022 UEFA U17 EURO Qualifying Round, where they will face Ukraine, Kazakhstan and hosts Portugal in November.
