Cymru vs England

C INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE MATCH

This is the third time the two sides have faced off against one another, after the fixture was introduced in 2018.

Following a win for England C’ at Jenner Park in 2018, goals from Kayne Mclaggon and Adam Roscrow helped Wales C’ secure a draw last time out at Salford Citys Peninsula Stadium.

Mark Jones has selected a squad of 20 from the JD Cymru Premier for this years fixture, with nine uncapped players being selected for the International Challenge Match.

The squad was announced via a series ofn animations for the FAW and the relevant Cymru Premier clubs designed by design firm Visually Speaking, who have worked alongside a number of reputable clients including UEFA, F1, MLS, NBA, Wimbledon, Premier League and Zlatan Ibrahimovic amongst a whole host of world renown clients.

With inspiration taken from Caernarfon Castle, Welsh history, folklore & mythology, in addition to a nod to the 12th & 13th century Mabinogion stories,  Visually Speaking have produced a bespoke animation and designs that focus on the location of the fixture, with the castle being a frame of reference for the third edition of the fixture taking place in Caernarfon.

Each design alludes to elements of the player, his club, its history and branding,  as well as incorporating Welsh history and mythology, which is woven into the final design as the players are selected for their national squad.

Founder and Director of Visually Speaking, Mike Miles-Boardman said: The history and culture of these clubs give so much to work with and when added to the Welsh mythology style, you have a really great project.

Working for the Football Association of Wales is a dream, and creating artwork to hopefully help the teams get more recognition and support is very worthy work.”

Barry Town United and Cardiff Met both have the highest number of representatives in the squad, as both sides have had five of their players selected for the fixture.

Chris Hugh, Clayton Green and Kayne Mclaggon have been selected for the fixture, having featured in previous years, whilst Evan Press and Luke Cummings are debutants in the squad.

The Archers are represented by Dylan Rees, Emlyn Lewis, Joel Edwards, Eliot Evans and Wil Evans – who is named in the squad for the first ever time.

The reigning JD Cymru Premier champions The New Saints have had one callup to the squad as Aeron Edwards is selected for the third consecutive season.

Whilst Aberystwyth Town have two nominated players, Connor Roberts, who is on loan from The New Saints, and youngster Lee Jenkins.

The current Nathaniel MG Cup holders, Connahs Quay Nomads have one player selected by Mark Jones, as Connor Roberts is called up after his debut in last years outing in Salford, and Cefn Druids’ Nathan Peate is also called up for a second time.

Bala Towns Chris Venables, who scored in the first fixture in Jenner Park in 2017/18, is handed his third cap for the fixture, whilst the leagues newboys Penybont are represented by Kane Owen in the squad.

Whilst hosts Caernarfon Town have three players selected for the match, with Alex Ramsay once again selected, who is joined by debutants Leo Smith and Darren Thomas.

Wales manager Mark Jones said: Were excited about playing this match at the home of Caernarfon Town. We know that not only the Cofis passionate fans will come out in support of the Cymru C squad at The Oval but all those in the surrounding area as well, and we cant wait to bring international football to their doorstep.

This will be the third match between Cymru and England in as many seasons and I believe that weve assembled a strong squad to give us the best possible chance in the match.”
