Wales 1-2 Iceland
Under 19 Friendly International
- Sunday, 4 September 2016
- Dragon Park, Newport
Iceland took an early lead through some nice play that saw Sveinn Aron Gudjohnsen, who was being watched by his father Eidur Gudjohnsen in the stands, get the ball into box where Mani Hilmarson put the ball past Aaron Jones on the Wales goal.
Exchanges were fairly even between the teams but Iceland increased their lead after half-time when Wales gave away possession in midfield allowing a through pass for Gudjohnsen to run onto. The striker showed great composure to slot the ball into the net for 2-0.
Wales played some neat football and applied plenty of pressure on the visiting defence but Andri Thor Gretarsson pulled off some fine saves, however, Tyler Roberts found his way through in the 66th minute to make it 2-1.
An equaliser eluded Wales despite a last minute chance that looked good to go in but Gretarsson pulled off an excellent save to ensure victory.
